STONE, Charles Pomeroy (1824-1887) was a career United States Army officer, civil engineer, and surveyor. He fought with distinction in the Mexican-American War, earning two brevet promotions for his performance in the conflict. After resigning and surveying for the Mexican Government, he returned to the U.S. Army to fight in the American Civil War. Autograph Letter Signed "Chas. P. Stone", datelined Hd Qrts. 7th Brigade, July 14, 1861, to Colonel Coke, cmdg 25th Pa Regt, 1pp. In part, "You will please have your men breakfasted, tents struck, wagons parked and ready to march out at 4-1/2 o'clock a.m. tomorrow ..."
