James Seaman Casey, was mustered into "H" Co. NY 7th Inf SM, then was Mustered Out on 6/3/1861. On 8/5/1861 he was commissioned into US Army 5th Infantry. Casey was Awarded Medal of Honor 11/27/1894 for actions against Indians at Wolf Mt., MT 01/08/1877. Preprinted Document, filled out and Signed by, "James S. Casey, 1 Lt 5 Inf," on 1 page document, datelined Fort Columbus, NY, January 9, 1862 in which Casey acknowledges receipt of a deserter, John Costello of Company A, 3rd regt (Metropolitan Regiment), New York.
