About two dozen issues of Horace Greeley's New York Tribune from various dates in 1862-64. Volume has been broken and ostensibly cherry-picked, but the raider missed some early reports from Pennsylvania that a big fight is looming (July 1, 2) as Gen. Ewell occupies Chambersburg (June 27) where things will culminate at GETTYSBURG (map in July 1 edition), including some eyewitness accounts of the Confederates headed that way. Reports you'll read include the wounding and loss of his arm (May 8) and DEATH of STONEWALL JACKSON (May 13) at Chancellorsville; much on the fighting (May 8) the conditions of COLORED TROOPS (May 6) and their conduct in leading an advance on Richmond (May 8), the capture of Grand Gulf and Haines Bluff and siege at Vicksburg (May 26), fighting at Charleston (April 9), and Missouri (May 8), rebel ironclads fighting at Charleston (April 13), various Copperhead meetings (May 6), Arming of the negroes (April 18, June 27), great battles in the Cumberland July 1 and various dates) and general reports on the condition of both Federal and Rebel (April 14) armies. Moseby's Guerrillas captured (May 2). Good content from a famous newspaper editor's newspaper. Also has a few maps of war zones (March 20, April 9, May 2 and 4 and July 1). Loosely bound, front board separated, back barely hanging on. Some pages raggedy and blind tears and foxing as you'd expect from a broken volume. Dates in 1862 include: July 4-5, Sept. 18, Nov. 21 and 5, Dec. 29. 1863 dates: Feb. 26, March 20, April 9, 10, 13, 14, 18; May 2, 4, 6, 8, 13, 26; June 27, July 1 and 2; Sept. 29, Nov. 4; Dates in 1864: May 11, July 23, Aug. 9. Not a real pretty collection, but doesn't affect reporting and the rag paper holds up.
