War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Alfred A. Thayer, Co. B, 96th Ohio Vols., "In camp in the rear of Vicksburg, Mississippi, June 19, 1863," reading, in part: "-they have a telegraph wire all around the lines & also to [the Big] Black river. [We] have all the bridges fixed so they can cross with horses & mules. They use mules to haul cannoneers from place to place on the railroad. One mule can pull more on one of the cars than six can on a wagon-A. A. to Mrs. A. Thayer-". The original stamped embossed valentine style transmittal cover is included. Thayer's phonetic spelling and loose grammar had been corrected. Light toning, else VG.
