B, 96th Ohio Vols., Memphis, Tenn., Sept. 10, 1863, reading, in part: "-I can sit on my bunk & have a fare view of the river. The boats are coming in & going out all the time. It would be interesting to you but I don't care anything about seeing a boat anymore-this is a noisy place I ever seen. The streets are full of children black & white & drays & wagons. They keep going late & early. You can hear them shooting at night shooting dogs. Sometimes they shoot the rodents-A. A. Thayer, Webster Hospital, Memphis, Ten, Ward D, bunk 306." The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Thayer's phonetic spelling and loose grammar had been corrected. Light toning, else VG.
