A finely illustrated Union soldier's "Corps of Ohio Volunteer Militia" enlistment document for 3rd Sergeant John M. Smith, Co., A, 67th Battalion Ohio Volunteer Militia, given at South Plymouth, Ohio on August 29, 1863, signed and made official by Capt. William H. Hague, as commander of the corps. measuring 12" x 9". Issued in response to Confederate General John Hunt Morgan's raid into Ohio in conjunction with Robert E. Lee's military movement into Pennsylvania that culminated with the battle of Gettysburg. Minor toning, else VG.
