He told him I was one of the best so the Dr. ask me how I liked it. I told him I guess I would stay till I got my shits broken up. He put his arm around me & said I had better make up my mind to stay with him. I guess I will, for awhile-you mosenet think of coming down here for it would kill you to-in the hot weather-it will be pretty bad for some of them home guard to leave for it is a bad time of the year but never mind one crop will help put down the rebellion-when this war is over there will be lots of glad hearts & lots of sad ones-A. A. Thayer-". The original stamped "United States Sanitary commission, N. E. Auxiliary Association" transmittal cover is included. Thayer's phonetic spelling and loose grammar had been corrected.
