War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Alfred A. Thayer, Co. C, 96th Ohio Battalion, "In camp at White River Landing, Arkansas, Nov. 27, 1864," reading, in part: "-since we left Morganza the rebels has made a dash in [and] killed one lieutenant & several men & taken several prisoners, then went to the slaughter yard and took all the beefs-one of my old hospital friends is here-we had a good old chat-he belongs to the 120 Ohio. His name is Israel Hileman, a very fine man. The 120 & the 14 is consolidated together-they leave here tomorrow. They don't belong to our brigade-direct to the 96 Battalion, Co. C, O. V. I., 3 brigade, 3 division, 19 Army Core, White river landing-A. A. Thayer-". The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Thayer's phonetic spelling and loose grammar had been corrected.
