WENDELL PHILLIPS, (1811-1884). (Abolitionists). American abolitionist, advocate for Native Americans, orator, and attorney, seen by many Blacks as "the one white American wholly color-blind and free from race prejudice". 1. Autograph Letter Signed, "Wendell Phillips," 4 pages, Sept. 21 (no year), no place, 8" x 5", Very Fine. Made to an unknown correspondent, regarding a Stock transfer. Two transparent tape remnants on page 4, one affecting "Phillips" in the signature. Phillips was a noted orator and historic abolitionist. He served as the President of the American Anti-Slavery Society from 1865-70. 2. Plus; An Original Retained Copy of an Autograph Letter, secretarially Signed by Abolitionist, (Elihu Burritt) (not in his hand), 2-1/4 pages, April 16, (18)74, New Britain, Ct., 10" x 8", Extremely Fine. Written to Samuel S. Green, announcing his pleasure that, "the dear Worcester of my love and pride... is going to revive the pleasant communion and fellowship with the old Worcester of Mother England...". It is very clean except for three small tape remnants on verso. Burritt was a social reformer and linguist, called "the learned blacksmith. (2 items)
