Confederate 4pp. self covering pencil letter written by Freeman Williams of the 31st Mississippi Infantry. On the address panel , "to Miss Williams by hand, Saltile Miss." Datelined Camp Moore, La. July 30th 1862. In part, ".. we left Vicksburg on the 27th and arrived here on the 29th ... the company will go to Baton 50-60 miles away ... several of the boys went to Jackson Hospital with illness and I would have gone also if I felt than as I do now ... Lt. Bolen has gotten a furlough and will deliver the letter home. Freeman Williams. Then Freeman continues to write a second letter, this one for his friend Jasper Payne to Payne's mother. In part, "I will say to you that I am not very well. I had a chill ... we will start to Jackson in the morning ... I think the reason of me getting a chill was getting wet. ... Jasper Payne
