Union soldier 2pp selfcovering letter written by Private J.H. Christ, to Governor Samuel Kirkwood, March 13, 1862. In part, "On the 24th August last, I enlisted in the Lancers Regiment in the German company, and three months after I was discharged without being told a reason why and received no allowance. .... I take the liberty of asking your Excellency whether any provisions are to be made or means adopted to pay soldiers discharged ..."
