A pair of enlistment documents for the 1st New Orleans Volunteers which was organized at New Orleans, La., March 6, 1864. Attached to Defences of New Orleans to April, 1865. District of La Fourche and Dept. of the Gulf to May, 1866. Both documents are preprinted and filled out in manuscript. The first enlists William McBridge of Alabama, eighteen years old, March 25th and is signed by McBride's "X". Witnessed by Lt. Charles Boothby. ... plus, the second document enlists John W. Haley of Alabama, nineteen years old, April 17th, 1864 and is signed by Haley's "X". Witnessed by Charles Newton. Charles W. Boothby enlisted on 4/26/1864 as a Captain and on 4/26/1864 he was commissioned into "D" Co. LA 1st NO Infantry. Charles H. Newton enlisted on 3/6/1864 at New Orleans, LA as a Captain snd on 3/6/1864 he was commissioned into "A" Co. LA 1st NO Infantry. He Resigned on 10/20/1865.
