Autograph Letter Signed, “R.B. Campbell” 1-1/2p. quarto, June 15, 1853, New Orleans, Louisiana, addressed to Sam Richard, and reads in part: “...Albert [slave] left this mornign for Mr. Grays where he will remain till I return to the City again, he desired me last Eve to send his best Respects...Considerable Excitement in the City yesterday morning about a Negro Insurrection the Report was that 2500 Negroes from the coast & city were attempting to fire the city & city prisons & kill & rob and in fact the police & military were out part of the night but it all turned out to be hoax or nearly so. It mostly was occassioned by a half crazy fire negro who gave the alarm...” Fine.
