Printed broadside, 1p. 9”x12”, Albany, New York, July 2, 1855, titled “CIRCULAR FROM ANTI-SLAVERY OFFICE” and reads in part: “...The Albany Vigilance Committee acting in connection with that of New York, has been in existence 4 years. During this time $300,89 has been expended by it in assisting Fugitive Slaves, two hundred and fourteen having been passed safely into Canada by its means....The Committee have had to labor night and day, through evil as well as good report, making many sacrifices of no ordinary kind, but with no regrets attending, belieiving that without the self sacrificing spirit, it were uselss to attempt anything in this highly important department of anti-slavery effort. Owing to the constant demands of late upon the treasury, the funds are low, and it must be born in mind, that without friends, the operations of the committee must be suspended. This would be crushing to many a slave depending upon your benevolence for their safe arrival in Canada...” Concludes with a listing of the number of slaves and the dates they were able to slip across the Canadian boarder...” VG.
