Mississippi Slave Sale Broadside, 12”x18”, Hinds County, December 5, 1855, reads in part: “...ADMINISTRATORS SALE...by virtue of an order of the probate court of Hinds County made at the February term 1854...one Negro boy John 13 years old, one Negro man Daniel 33 years old, one Negro woman Katherine 55 years old on a credit of 6 months bond with approved security...Hubert Spengler. December 5 ,1855.” With attaached manuscript document stating that the above broadside was posted in accordance with the laws of Mississippi regarding public sales. It is signed by William H. Danforth and dated January 16, 1856. Excellent pre-war slave broadside from the home state of Jefferson Davis. Slave sales were common place in the south at this time and the break up of the slave family, sadly, was nothing more than a business transaction. Historically important and a great exhibition piece from the state of Mississippi.
