Autograph Letter Signed, C.W. Ducelly, 4p. octavo, November 22, 1860, Bennetsville, South Carolina, and reads in part: “I have reached home after a hurried visit to E. Tennessee...If the state of political affairs here, more different, I would probably seek a location in teh grain growing country...Revolution is inevitable! A very different state of things from what I apprehended, when with you, at Huntersville. Now the most conservative of our people are either carried along with the current or are boldly striking with it. More is no opposition whatever, & secession is now only a question of time. A few week, will be sufficient to usher into the world a new-born government & the Republic of the United States is to become a thing of history. Having expressed to you a different opinion it is proper now to correct it& inform you what is the real condition of things here at present. To adhere to this Union, is now said to be ‘Treason!’...And this without reference to the action of other States...South Carolina will unfurl the banner of a separate state government...The enthusiasm of the leading Secessionist has spread over the people like a flame of fire & they are maddened as I never saw them before...Alabama will certainly go with us and Georgia & Mississippi...” More.
