Autograph Letter Signed, 2-1/2p. quarto, March 11, 1862, Warrenton, Navy Yard, Florida, and reads in part: ‘...I have been ordered from Pensacola to the Navy Yard six or eight miles further down the Bay...three companies of our battalion...are now in Command of the Navy Yard....Thre are fourteen elegant residences, here to fore occupied by the Officers of the Old U.S. Navy & their families...all of them are now in a partial state of ruin and soon will be entirely destroyed. I have never seen such vandalism in my life...Wha the soldiery could not carry off has been either so much defaced or entirely destroyed...We are here in constant site of the enemy...We are well fortified by guns and Batterys. I have been drilling my men on the guns...Remember me to the Servants...” VG.
