Enormous broadside, 25”x35”, c. 1862 printed by Thurston of Portland, signed in manuscript by two recruiters at bottom, it reads “Volunteers Wanted for the Thirteenth Regiment! This Regiment to be commanded by Col. Neal Dow! To be despatched to the Seat of War as soon as full! $100 Bounty at the End of Service! Pay and Rations commence on the day of Enlistment!...” with fine eagle vignette at top. VG. Framed. Neal Dow (1804-1897) recruited the 13th Maine at the beginning of 1862. He was promoted to Brigadier General at the end of April 1862 and would serve until his resignation in late 1864.
