Autograph Letter Signed "Rollin Eldridge", 2 pages, quarto, May 15, 1863, Newport Barracks, Kentucky to unknown recipient (probably William Heath). The letter reads in part: "...I supose you think I am dead or in the Reble army but I can inform you with plesher that I am not eather at present but am in the Union Army...write as soon as you git this and then I will write you a long leter about our escape from the south...". Fine condition...Plus; Autograph Letter Signed "J Eldridge", 4 pages, quarto, August 22, 1863, Springfield, Missouri to one William Heath, location unknown. The letter reads in part: "...I have not heard one word from you Since my wife was thare in 60 I left Greenville S.C. on the 12 of Nov with 2 Mules and waggons & all my Boyes Exsep John he was an Actor in A Theatical Comp and was at that time traveling in North Carolina...I did not here from him untill last winter I got A letter from him he was in Ft Delaware A Prisenor of war. I was then in Grants Army in Miss Chief Saddler in Shermans Division...I got Situation as Harness maker in the Division with the boys late lLast Fall our Command was Moved to Pilot Knob in South Eastern Missouri...we like this Climate & Country Much...Springfield is Situated on the Edge of A Perraia...this is Head quarters for all of South Western Mo thare alwayes troops going & coming through here we alwayes have A Regement an at times 5 ot 10 thousand we have Several Fortifications in and About own that will give us great Advantage in A Fite...". Fine condition.
