Group of 4 Autograph Letters Signed "William Busby", 16 pages, octavo, 1864, various locations to his father, George Busby, South Adams, Massachusetts. Busby's Texas letters recall camp life, however the Alabama material offers eyewitness accounts of the operations against Mobile. The letters read in small part: "(Aransas Pass, Texas, 5/27/64)...I am Away from the rigament on St Jospeh Island halling wood & beef there is four men with me we have lots of fish to eate can catch eny Amount in the gulf...(Brownsville, Texas, 7/26/64)...it is very warm here & the meanest looking place that I have been in...("on the move", Alabama, 8/12/64)...we have taken...8 or 9 hundred prisners & have taken Fort Powell...(Mobile, Alabama, 9/5/64)...Arived here the Eight of August then went to seging Fort Morgan wish surendered on the 23rd of August with 672 men...they run up the white flag & our guns seased firing...the stars & stripes are waving over the fort...". All four letters have their original stamped covers bearing New Orleans cancels. Overall Fine condition.
