Archive of 21 letters from various persons, approximately 40 pages, mostly quarto, 1864-1865 to Reverend James Eastwood, City Point, Virginia. Eastwood represented the Massachusetts Soldiers Mission at City Point, the Army of the Potomac's massive supply base below Richmond. From there he would arrange for donations of food and clothing to reach soldiers in the field. His work generated a considerable correspondence from both fellow aid workers and grateful troops. This diverse grouping consists of 5 letters from John Osborn, a supplies purchaser in Boston, 8 letters from friends, and 8 letters from soldiers. Content ranges from thank you's to commentary on politics and war-related news. There is even a mention of the Confederate raid on St. Albans, Vermont. The letters, with stamped covers, remain generally crisp and clean. One letter is on U.S. Sanitary Commission stationery. Overall Very Fine condition.
