An extremely rare partly-printed war-date, 1p. 4to., Squirrel Hunter document, signed in type by Governor David Tod, and issued by: "The State of Ohio, Executive Department", Columbus, March 4, 1863, to Charles Everett announcing the resolution for the printing of an official Squirrel Hunter's discharge. At the upper left-hand margin is a finely engraved enduring of Ohio's state coat of arms. This document recognizes Everett's service and reads, in part: "…resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the state of Ohio, that the Governor…is hereby authorized and directed to appropriate out of his contingent fund, a…sum to pay for printing…discharges for the patriotic men…who responded to the call of the governor…as…'Squirrel Hunters'…[but] for the gallant services you…rendered in September last…our dear state…would have been invaded by a band of pirates determined to overthrow the best government on earth…". Extremely sought after since Squirrel Hunter ephemera seldom appears in the marketplace. Minor soiling, else very good.
