Abbot, in part: "Will you be free to be at Troy, on Friday next to command the Battalion of Engineer Troops composing part of the funeral escort to the remains of General Thomas..." Docketed at bottom by Abbot....plus; Printed Document, General Orders No. 7, with black mourning bars, HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT OF THE EAST, TROY, N.Y. April 7, 1870., 3pp. 8vo., announcing the order of march for the funeral of Major General George H. Thomas. This document lists the Pall Bearers as Major Generals Meade, Rosecrans, Schofield, Hooker, Gordon Granger, Newton, Haxen, and Brigadier General Mackay. Also included is the line of march. Toning from mounting residue else VG to Fine...plus; Printed Document, General Orders No. 7, with black mourning bars, HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT OF THE EAST, Philadelphia, Pa. November 9, 1872, announcing the order of march for the funeral of Major General George G. Meade, and listing the Pall Bearers as "Lieutenant General Sheridan; Major Generals Humphreys, Parke and Wright, of the Army; Rear Admiral Turner and Lardner, and Commodores Scott and Mullaney, of the Navy." The Mourners listed are "The staff and family of the deceased, the President of the United States, Members of the Cabinet and General of the Army." Two pencil notations by Abbot on reading "Commanded by H.L.A." Light toning along left edge, else VG...plus; Document Signed by A. Gardner, 1st Lt., 1st Arty., ADC., being Special Orders No. 218, 1p. 4to., November 8, 1872, detailing which troops of the Engineer's Battalion will be escort in the funeral of Major General Meade. Abbot has noted at bottom in pencil "Escort was under my command with 2 Co.s Marines also 700 men all told - H.L.A." Mounting residue, Good to VG. (4 items)
