Group of three items pertaining to William Augustus Barry, surgeon with the 75th (who had 25 killed and 40 wounded at Gettysburg) and 98th Pennsylvania Vols, and his son Henry A. Barry, of the 127th Pennsylvania Volunteers. This group includes a “Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States”, 1p. 25”x20”, May 1, 1896, and reads in part: “...Whereas Major William Augustus Barry Surgeon 98th Pennsylvania Infantry was distinguished for faithful services in maintaining the honor, integrity and supremacy of the Governor of the United States of America during the War of the Rebellion and died May 24, 1885. Now know ye, that his son Harry Augustus Barry, Private 127th Pennsylvania Infy. was elected by right of inheritance a Companion of the First Class of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States...” Signed by John Nicholson and one other officer.
