SCHURZ, Carl (1829-1906) Union General. He exercised a large influence on every presidential election from 1860-1904. Towards the end of his life he was looked to as the dean of elder statesman and was consulted on virtually every question of national importance. Three Autograph Letters Signed, two "C. Schurz", and one in text "Carl Schurz" dated late nineteenth, early twentieth century, pertaining to invitations by the Chamber of Commerce. VG. ..plus; Autograph Letter Signed, "C. Schurz" 2p. octavo, September 23, 1892, declining an invitation to give a eulogy at the funeral of George W. Custis. VG.
