Fantastic grouping of Lincoln Assassination items pertaining to Ephraim Jones, 201st Pennsylvania, who was present in Ford’s Theater and witnessed Booth’s shooting of Lincoln. Group includes: Ticket stubb, 2”x1-3/4”, on yellow stock, with black print “FORD’S THEATRE. FRIDAY. ORCHESTRA Section ‘B’ No ‘225’” with ink notation on verso “Apr 14th 1865” pressure sensative tape repair residue at clean center split, else VG...plus; Autograph Letter Signed by Ephraim Jones, 4p. octavo, pencil, April 14th, 1865, this date was changed to 15th when Jones added his postscript which includes his witnessing the assassination, the letter reads in part: “...Well Bell this cruel war is nearly over and I am glad of it for I have seen my share of it. There is one thing that bothers me, what will the people do with this army if it is turned loose at the north - what a horrible state of society with a lot of soldiers running loose about the city and county nobody will be safe...” he adds in postscript “Bell - your mother and pap was at the theatre last night and seen that fellow shoot the president. your mother was scared almost to death. he made his escape across the stage. I will write particulars in next...” Fine....plus; CDV of Ephraim Jones, signed on verso, by “Gorman & Jordan Army Photographers”. 1864. Fine...plus; Provost Marshal pass, 1p. oblong octavo, May 2, 1865, City Point, Virginia, permiting Ephraim Jones to pass to Washington, D.C. Fine....plus; Obituary for Margaret Jones, wife of Ephraim, stating that she had witnessed the assassination. All fresh from the Jones family. (5 items)
