LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865) Sixteenth president of the United States, assassinated at the end of the Civil War. Autograph Endorsement Signed, “A. Lincoln” on verso of a Special Orders, Lincoln writes in full: “...Understanding that this young man, John R. Daly, was serving in the Volunteer land service, and receiving an appointment in the Naval services in order to enter upon the Naval services left the land services, without the proper formal leave, for which he is sought to be arrested as a deserter, I do hereby pardon him of said supposed desertion...A. Lincoln July 24, 1863.” Repaired, with some water damage that has left the letter a little blurry, else Good to VG.
