Autograph Letter Signed, “James Morrow” who served in the 17th & 18th U.S. Infanties, during the War of 1812, 2p. quarto, October 9, 1813, Lancaster, Ohio, with integral leaf addressed to James Cunningham in Gettysburg, it reads in part: “...you will have in a short time Eighty seven British prisoners taken by Commadore Perry arrived in this town on the 1st Oct. Upward of one Hundred of the 41st Regt. are among them. Greater part of them Irish and enlisted for life. They were guarded to this place by 100 PA Militia. The number of the enemy killed will not be known as the prisoners inform us that the enemy were thrown overboard as they wer shot to prevent the number being known. Among those thrown overboard were many Indians two Indians have been taken and sent to Cleveland with the wounded. Ninty in number the Commission officers nine in number are in Chillicothe. Gen. Harrison was expected to land his forces in Canada on teh twenty-fifth of Sept. We have received information that the Enemy have evacuated Detroit and Malden & burned them...” VG.
