Autograph Letter Signed, E.F. Nicholls, 3p. quarto, December 22, 1846, Saltillo, with integral leaf addressed to “Hon W.W. Pugh House of Representatives, New Orleans”, and reads in part: “...Three of our men - privates, I mean, of the Phoenix Company - who were severly wounded in the actions at Monterey - are about returning home under a discharge...The wounds received by them, I refer partiuarly to Morton & Burton - will render them cripples for life & will incapacitate them in a great degree from earning their livlyhood hereafter a their respective trades. The unfortunate condition of the three is of a character justly to excite sympathy in Louisiana...unless I can get some one to interest himself in their favor, I fear their reception wil lnot be as cheering as it should be...” Much more.
