Autograph Letter Signed "Geo Gibson", 6 pages, quarto, March 29, 1855, Albuquerque, New Mexico to W.A. Gordon, Washington, D.C. The letter reads in small part: "...A very disgraceful scene is reported to have occurred at Taos on the departure of Major Thompson's company of Dragoons...They halted for a short time in Taos, during which period the most of the men got drunk, making themselves peculiarly obnoxious to the people of the place...A soldier standing close by at this time, is said to have addressed some impudent remark to Thompson whereupon Blake desired to know of Thompson if that was the way he allowed his men to talk to him. At this, the soldier made an assault upon Blake, who felled him to the ground with his fist. Two other soldiers then came to the rescue of their fallen companion, who were likewise in turn brought to the ground by Blake's fists...". Minor splits, else Fine condition.
