Serving tray, silver-plated copper, 15" x 26", ca. 1930's - 1940's. The face of this large and heavy tray is engraved FROM THE WARDROOM OFFICERS U.S.S. PORTLAND. The Portland, a 9,800 ton heavy cruiser, was commissioned in 1933 and earned her first historical footnote by having President Roosevelt as a passenger in October, 1935. She went on to serve in many of WWII's major campaigns in the Pacific and was de-commissioned in 1959. Tarnished, else Fine condition.
