SAGE, Russell (1815–1906) American financier. An attempt to assassinate him in 1891 failed, resulting in the death of the would-be assassin, Henry Norcross. Autograph Letter Signed, “Russell Sage for MF and CV RR Co.”, 1p. quarto, New York, December 30, 1863, with railroad content, it reads in part: “...Will you please send my by Express, sections of the 56th and 67th rail notches ordered from your company by the MF and CV RR Co, so that, we can order our chain made to conform the same...” VG.
