CASEY, Thomas Lincoln (1857-1925) He amassed a large collection by personal collecting and by purchase, and most of that collection is now housed at the U.S. National Museum in Washington, D.C. Casey was one of the great North American coleopterists, and he described more species than any other person. He published 76 papers, and his most important work was probably his privately published Memoirs on the Coleoptera (1910-1924). Thom…” About VG....plus; HENRY, Joseph (1797-1878) The most revered American scientist of his times and the first Secretary (director) of the Smithsonian Institution. Henry's pioneering work in electricity and magnetism helped bring about the invention of the telegraph, the electric motor, and the telephone. At the Smithsonian Institution he created the outlines of the unique research and cultural institution that we know today. Morgan, stating that he is "making preparations to spend a week or more in the inspection of oils and lighting materials at the Light House Depot on State Island…" VG....plus; DANA, Charles (1819-1897) He is best remembered for his great career as editor of “the newspaperman's newspaper,” which began in 1868 when Dana became editor and part owner of the New York Sun. Though his editorials were erratic—he denounced the corruption in Grant's administration and refused to support labor unions and civil service reform—and often cynical, as a news editor he established high standards of readability and maintained a famous staff of writers. He also wrote The Art of Newspaper Making (1895) and Eastern Journeys (1898). Autograph Letter Signed, "C.A. Autograph Letter Signed, “Lee Shubert” 1p. octavo, April 27, no year, on his stationary, addressed to Delancy Nicoll, and reads “I have just learned of your great loss, and hasten to express my deep and sincere sympathy for you and Mrs. Nicoll in your bereavement…” Fine....plus; Autograph Letter Signed, “Louis Sherry” 1p. octavo, May 8, 1915, with cover addressed to Mrs. Delancey Nicoll in New York City, it reads “You have my heart-felt sympathy in your double affliction…” Fine. Louis Sherry was an established provider of high-range confectionery items and catering on both sides of the Atlantic -- including the connecting transatlantic liners. ...plus; Pair of Autograph Letters Signed, “Elliott Roosevelt” each 1p. octavo, one on his firm’s stationary, both December 1883, and addressed to DeLancey Nicoll Esq. the both pertaining to his name being used in for a dinner at the St. Pauls School for Boys. Both Fine. Elliott Roosevelt, was a brother to Theodore Roosevelt and father to Eleanor Roosevelt, who eventually married Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
