ROCKEFELLER, John D. (1874-1960)First became associated with his father's business interests in 1897 and later his philanthropic corporations. During the elder Rockefeller's later years, he spent several months a year at his country homes in Lakewood, New Jersey and Ormond Beach, Florida. The younger Rockefeller built Rockefeller Center in New York and restored colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Nelson, Governor of New York and Ford's Vice President, and Winthrop, Governor of Arkansas, were two of his four sons. Typed Letter Signed, “John D. Rockefeller Jr.” 1p. quarto, December 30, 1903, addressed to Robert Shaw, it reads “I have thought to continue at the session of the Class on Sunday morning the discussion of ‘Duty’; duty to the church and duty to the state. I am asking two or three men to have a thought on the subject and be ready to say a word. Will you say just a word on ‘Duty to the State.’ The subject is taken from the first few verses of the 13th chapter of Romans...” VG...plus; Two secretarily signed letters to Shaw from Roosevelt, 1904.
