CHURCH, Frederick (1842-1924) American artist and illustrator. He was known for his paintings of birds and animals of all kinds and he endowed them with human and humorous attributes. Autograph Letter Signed, “FS Church” 2p. octavo on two separate leaves, Carnegie Hall, New York, December 27, 1915, with front cover flap addressed to Dr. Dudley Tenney, and reads “The journey told and the poem are thoroughly appreciated and I thank you a thousand times as soon as I get back for good which will be in about two weeks I will fix you up with studies. I am awful busy getting up an exhibition of Flowers Birds and Animal Panels for Maebith...” At the bottom of the letter is an illustration by Church of a bear posing while a cherub paints his picture on an easel while a bird with its beak open sits nearby. Mounted, else VG.
