ROTHSCHILD, Meyer Amschel. Member of the famous European banking firm of Rothschild, succeeded his father as head fo the Frankfort branch of the firm. His father was also Meyer Amschel Rothschild who founded the banking dynasty. Manuscript Letter Signed, “Rothschild” 1p. quarto, in German, Frankfort, March 9, 1834, addressed to the Jacoby Brothers in Berlin, it reads in part: “....Since you used your influence with us in the past on behalf of a certain Abraham Wolkowithz of Pohlen, we take the liberty to present you an original letter [not present] written by Mr. Mayor Schwaner of Offenbach, from which you will see that the former will only be allowed to stay in Offenbach for a longer period of time on bail in the amount of 200 Guilders; and since we are willing to provide half of this bail in the amount of 100 Guilders, we would like to ask you if, in order to raise the other half, you would be so kind to name an amount that you would be willing to give and then send it here. We also would like to ask you that you return the original letter of Mr. Schwaner to us because...Wolkowitz needs it. In anticipation of your prompt answer, we are signing humbly with respect...” VG.
