Bold fancy heading on this single sheet (blank reverse) fancy printed special notice dated Dec., 1862. Notification of a "special" meeting of the Executive Committee to be held December 8…"By order, Myer S. Isaacs, Sec'y." 5 x 8. Wide borders. The organization originally founded in 1859 because of the American Jewish reaction to the infamous Moratara case. Original founders were Myer Isaacs and I. Leeser; activities were limited to the defense of Jewish civil and religious rights in America and overseas. During the Civil War (period this was issued) it petitioned Lincoln to protest against Grant's infamous order no. 8 and it was instrumental in the appointment of Jewish Chaplains to the Union Army.
