BURR, Aaron (1756-1836). Vice President U.S. Officer in American Revolution. Mortally wounded Alexander Hamilton in duel, July 11, 1804. Implicated with Gen. James Wilkinson in conspiring to seize territory from Spanish America and creating a new republic in the Southwest. Autograph Letter Signed, “A. Burr” 1p. quarto, September 24, 1818, New York, addressed to William Goldsborough of Fredericks Town, Maryland, and reads in most part: “...Your answer is herewith enclosed, You may ad, alter or Amend at your pleasure, but if it should be thereby much defaced, a new copy must be made. Do not insert any thing by way of Argument. Nothing but plain fact is permitted. This answer may be sworn to before any Judge of your Supreme Court or before any Judge of any Court of Common pleas or County Court or before any Notary public. I cannot allow you to retain the answer more than forty eight hours and should much prefer taht you woud Send it by return of mail under cover...” VG.
