Autograph Letter Signed, “Sam W. Hall & Co.” 2p. quarto, Boston, Massachusetts, November 10, 1840, addressed to Messrs. Adams & Jay, and reads in part: “...The Old Bay State as you know had her election yesterday - and nobly has she come up to the mark. Boston gives Old Tip about 3000 majority - Davis majority in the city will be about 200 less than Harrison - last year we gave Everett only 1200 majority - Judging from the returns in this morning Davis & Harrisons majority in the state will be about 15,000!!! - glory enough - The Post for Political purposes has hetherto claimed Maine as Van Buren. Our election brings our green days this morning that the returns from Maine look rather hard ciderish...” VG.
