KENNEDY, John Fitzgerald (1917-1963) 35th President of the United States. Assassinated. Document Signed, “John F. Kennedy” 2 page on two separate leaves, folio, New York, New York, September 18, 1952, this important document signed by Kennedy while a Senator from Masschusetts, gives power of attorney to his lawyer to exercise control over Kennedy’s vast oil holdings. During the period he was Senator from 1952 to 1960 his presidential ambitions developed, and more of his energies became channeled towards this goal, and on January 2, 1960 he declared his candidacy. Kennedy had a sizable estate due to his Father’s great wealth. He must have felt that his political activities made it necessary to grant a POA over his oil holdings. It reads in part: “...I, John F. Kennedy...designate and appoint E.C. Jordan...my true and lawful attorney, for me, in my name and stead (1) to negotiate, make, execute, and deliver any and all instruments and agreements relating to or affecting any oil and mineral properties wheresoever situate, owned by me, or in which or in respect of which I have or may have any right, title and interest, direct or indirect, including without limitation any contract to sell, any deeds, mineral deeds, royalty deeds, leases, sub-leases, releases, assignments, operating agreements, drilling agreements, farm-out agreements, and agreements, conveyances, and transfers affecting or relating to rights, royalties, overriding royalties, and similar interests, also division orders, dry-hole and bottom-hole letters and related agreements; (2) to employ...brokers...to effect the sale or transfer of...properties...(3) to demand, receive and collect any and all monies...(4) to endorse, deposit, and collect any check or other instrument from the payment of money that may be payable to my order; (5) upon the non-payment of any monies...to institute, prosecute...arbitrate and settle any action...he may deem proper...(6) to retain, employ and pay any attorney...(7) generally, to do, execute and perform any act, matter or thing that, in the opinion of my said attorny ought to be done...as fully as I, said John F. Kennedy, could do if personally present...” Nice bold signature. Fine.
