Manuscript Document, one page with docketing, quarto, August 9, 1839, Fort Gibbons, Indian Territory. A copy of orders sent to one Captain R. C. Buchanan, 4th Infantry regarding an expedition into Cherokee lands. It reads in part: "...you will proceed without delay to the present convention Ground near the Illinois River, where it is expected you will meet with a Detachment of about five hundred Arkansas Volunteers...Should you find them there, you will require them to leave the Indian country forthwith...warn them of the consequences of entering the Indian Country with an armed force without authority, as it is an invasion of the Indian Country, and might lead to a retaliation on the part of the Indians...". Light aging, else VF condition.
