Dictated Manuscript Letter, one page, quarto, April 16, 1845, Creek Nation, to Major General T.S. Jessup in Washington, D.C. The words of “Yarqu”, a Creek, are conveyed through the Choctaw Agency in Arkansas to Jessup, Quartermaster General of the U.S. Army. Yarqu “writes” in part: “...Many years ago you called on your Creek brothers to help you when you were fighting in Florida. They were ready to come when you called them, and to do what you wanted them to do...Since then the Creek have moved West of the Mississippi. The Florida war is over - you no longer want them to fight the Seminoles. But the Creek are not at peace. They have a new enemy that fights against them alone, and not against the Americans. The Pawnee Mahas have threatened to attack the Creek...now it is Yarqu’s turn to call on your help. He does not want you to come and fight for him as he did for you, but the wants you to send him a first rate rifle that will...kill a Pawnee Maha 200 yards off...”. VF condition.
