Bates” 1p. oblong folio, on fine and scarce illustrated lettersheet titled “SUNDAY IN THE CALIFORNIA DIGGINS” published at the Wide West Office, San Francisco, Georgetown, July 10, 1855, and reads in part: “...The Vermonters are all in usual health although some are not so tough & hearty as others....What you see above is a small item of what is seen & done in our mountain towns on Sunday as a general thing the miners are better dressed than they are represented with their long beards they look wild & some times act wild & some are wild & never will get tame again...” Some light toning, else VG.
