Autograph Letter Signed, “Amasa M. Lyman” 3p. octavo, January 27, 1863, Great Salt Lake City, with cover addressed to Mr. Albert Mason, with fine circular “Salt Lake City U.T.” cancellation, the letter reads in part: “...late arrival of our teams and wagons from the West...all the season’s immigration amounts to five thousand numbers arrived in Utah without loss or serious accident...I have been detained here during a Session of the Territorial Legislature Assembly...locating my family in the city of Fillmore, Millard County the capitol by locality of Territory...the honey bee has been introduced with success during the last year...the quiet of our Territory has been disturbed by the killing of some white men by the Indians on our Northern Territory...body of troops dispatched from teh Command of Colonel Coner, whose command consists of the California Volunteers who are now encamped near our city...we have daily reports from the seat of war but of these I need not speak as you are alike posted...to what extent are our kindred involved in the deadly strife...” More.
