Letter Signed “Your Affectionate Father”, 4 pages, octavo, april 16, 1867, Nevada City, California to Charles B. Wadsworth, Hartford, Connecticut. A gold miner dispels any notions of easy money in California by describing his work in great detail: He writes in very small part: “...I thought I would give you a description of the manner of extracting the gold from the rock...the apron is covered with a sheet of copper galvanized with quicksilver, the q silver having an affinty for gold... gold is only to be had by hard labor. Hoping you may get some idea of gold getting from this...”. Excellent techincal content. With stamped cover, Very Fine condition.
