Manuscript Document Signed, 1p. folio, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, January 19, 1781, being the deposition of Rebecca Spencer in the case of “Pennsylvania vs. James McDonald” concerning an incident with a militia company and confiscation of guns. In part: “…the Defendant with some others came to James Spencer’s about the sevententh day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight and one of the company asked her, where her husband was, she told him he was coming, and one of the company ordered another to prince his gun and shoot said James Spencer if he offer to run, after the said James Spencer came up, one of the Company demanded said Spencer’s gun, said Spencer objected….some of the Company swore the would have it, and shook a stick over his head and damn’d him, that they would beat him if he did not deliver it up…next day, McDonald came back with said company and took away a five year old Bull ...and the accoutrements of two guns...” Minor loss at fold intersections, toning along folds, else VG.
