Partly printed Document Signed “J Lawrence” as Treasurer and, on verso, “X” by Jack Little, one page, 7.5” x 4”. Completed in manuscript. On watermarked laid paper. Treasury Office [Hartford] Connecticut, June 1, 1782. Circular punch cancellation removed words in [brackets]. Two folds. Uneven left edge. Fine condition. In full, “The State of Connecticut doth [owe unto] Mr. Jack Little who hath se[rved in the Co]nnecticut Line of the Continental Army, the Sum of Nine poun[ds Nine] Shillgs Being one fourth Part of the B[alance found d]ue to him, which sum shall be paid to him or his Order at this Office, in Gold [or Silver,] on or before the first Day of June, A.D. One thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty [Six] with Lawful Interest thereof; which Interest shall be paid unto him or his Order annually, at the same Place, on the first Day of June, if demanded, pursuant to an Act of the General Assembly held at Hartford, the second Thursday of May last.” Seven manuscript endorsements on verso indicate annual payments of interest from 1783 to 1789. Signed near these endorsements by Jack Little with an “x” – “his mark.”
