The Petition of Samuel Hodgkinson humbly showith...That your Petitioner was an early Associator in Captain Sterlings Company of Militia in Burlington in teh Province of New Jersey, now a Sergeant in Capt. Jenkin’s Company in the Battalion lately raised in this City, and being encouraged by a Number of Gentlemen to apply to your honourable Board, humbly solicits an appointment to an Ensigncy, and your Petitioner as in Duty bound shall every pray &c...” Signed “Samuel Hodgkinson” and attested by the above. Fine. Samuel Hodgkinson did make the battalion, was appointed as sergeant, and fought with them in the Canada campaign and the taking of Montreal.
