License issued to Francis, Earl of Bedford, to grant the manor of Hawkwell in the parish of Cutcombe and Timbercombe in Somerset to Alexander Pym for the sum of L10, 10 November 1583. Pym was the father of John Pym, the Parliamentarian Leader, with 5” embossed paper covered wax seal. Document is fine, presented in a deep modern frame which is identified on the back as Goodspeed’s Bookshop, Boston, 1966. Francis Russell, 2nd Earl of Bedford, (1527-1585) an English nobleman, soldier and politician and godfather to Sir. Francis Drake.
