Authenticate issue of the Niles Weekly, Baltimore, August 23, 1834, 16., disbound, VG. From the interior, a 1-1/2 page report “PHILADELPHIA RIOTS,” develops the report of the three day race riot in Philadelphia. In small part, “The onset was made in Seventh street .. two brick houses on the west side, occupied by blacks, were assailed .. the windows and doors dashed, the furniture demolished and the inhabitants dragged from their beds and dreadfully beaten. ... the mob .. proceeded to the corner of Small and Sixth street ... consisted of nearly 500 .. lads 17 to 20. No house nor dwelling of colored people was spared. The poor blacks, freightened at the approaching storm had fled their houses and even the city, and took repose by the thousands in the fields and woods ... “
